Private Tuition - GCSE & A level
With 25yrs experience preparing students for art exams I know how vital it is to receive the correct advice, early and often. Art is a time heavy subject, so you want to make sure you are spending your time as effectively as possible.
I offer personalized support for all GCSE and A-level creative subjects (specialising in AQA, EDEXCEL, and OCR) as well as the International Baccalaureate. I can help you succeed through online or in-person sessions.
Face to Face or Online?
The enforced transition to online teaching during COVID-19 showed us the great potential of digital learning. Culminating from 100s of online tutorials, I have developed innovative live demonstration methods that integrate traditional classroom experiences with simple digital tools to allow live assistance and annotation where needed. All tutorials are recorded so students can revisit demonstrations and critiques at their own pace.
During this time, I was at the forefront of developing digital portfolios, now widely practiced as standard for coursework submissions and art school applications world-wide. Examples of these celebrated portfolios (some of which are now used by OCR as their top-level exemplar materials) can be found here.
My areas of expertise embrace all media and disciplines, from classical observational and technical drawing, experimental acrylis and traditional oil painting technique, Etching, Collagraph and Lino Printing, Ceramics, Sculpture, Photography, Set Design and Installation. Additionally, I can provide assistance with coursework portfolio presentation, essay structuring and writing, and how to write effective annotations to support your practical work and illustrate your ideas.

13+ / 16+ Scholarships and Bursaries
As a Head of Department at a top-flight independent school I have assessed 100s of candidates and awarded scholarships and bursaries worth up to 25% of their annual school fee’s.
There are so many factors to consider when considering a private education but having even a little reduction on the school fee’s (and the status of a scholarship) can be an enormous start in life.
Following an initial consultation, I will give you honest advice as to where the strength and weaknesses of the application, clear examples of what to build on, structured examples of appropriate portfolio styles and coaching on interview technique and what to expect.
